What You Should Know About R22 Refrigeration...

Dear Valued Customer,

On January 1, 2010 production of heating/cooling equipment containing R-22 refrigerant , which is the industry's standard refrigerant, will be banned . In other words, all manufacturers like Carrier, Trane and Lennox (to name a few) will stop producing heating and cooling equipment with R-22 refrigerant and will replace it with the environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant.

In 2010, we will see the production of R-22 refrigerant reduced by 75%. As we move closer to January 1, 2010, with the production of R-22 products being stopped and its refrigerant production being reduced, simple repairs of R-22 products - such as freon leaks, replacements of compressors, coils, outdoor and indoor units - will be difficult (if not impossible) and certainly much more expensive .

You may have many questions about this issue and its effect upon you and your home. We highly recommend that you visit the government's website at www.epa.gov and to find out "What you should know about refrigerant ." This website will give you information concerning the Montreal Protocol and Title VI of the Clean Air Act.

As you research this legislation and its ramifications on you and your home, we recommend you ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Is my present system over ten years old?
  2. Will I continue living in this home for more than five years?
  3. Have I spent more than $500 on repair costs over the past several years?
  4. In order to get my system to cool properly, do I have refrigerant added at the beginning of every summer?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might want to consider the cost difference between replacing your existing heating and/or cooling system now versus repairing or replacing it when cost and/or availability becomes a serious issue later. We can help answer that question with a free estimate and/or give you a free evaluation of your current system . All you have to do is call now.

You may be saying to yourself that you cannot afford to replace that system right now. If that is a concern, Smith & Keene would like to offer you the following :

  • Financing options to fit your financial needs and your budget.
  • Manufacturer's rebates (up to $1000) on some specific lines of equipment - for a limited time only.
  • Equipment that may qualify for government tax credits.
  • Great discounts on most jobs.
  • Virginia Natural Gas rebates (up to $500) on specific high efficient gas equipment.

So, take that first step and contact us today to set up an appointment!
